Daily Draw: Bruegel Tarot ~ 5 of Swords
Here we see a group of people who in exchange for momentary pleasure now face extensive repayment. One has lost his mind, one has lost his money, one has lost his wife, one has lost all heart, one will lose his freedom. How often does a lapse in common sense result in weeks, months, years of regret and recrimination? And then we turn around and do something just as stupid once again?
What is wrong with humans that we refuse to learn from past mistakes or observation of what isn't working for others? Mankind as a species is so smart there isn't anything we can't do. But as individuals we seem compelled to drop to moronic levels. Is it our arrogance that makes us think we are above repayment? Today's quotation shows just how far we've progressed...
"The national budget must be balanced. The public debt must be reduced; the arrogance of the authorities must be moderated and controlled. Payments to foreign governments must be reduced, if the nation doesn't want to go bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance." ~ Cicero 106 BC - 43 BC
