Drowned Hopes

Daily Draw: Paulina Tarot ~ World

The world in this deck is under the nurturing care of a mermaid. Merpeople are lodged in my mind as carnivore creatures which would make us farmed food wouldn't it?

I'm reminded by this card that would be only fair, as through history the sea has fed much of the world and we've treated it poorly indeed, thinking it so immense no matter what we do it can't be harmed. Now our sea food sports mercury for seasoning and our nets come back full of plastic and mutants. What a state of affairs and exactly what we deserve.

"A mermaid found a swimming lad,
Picked him for her own,
Pressed her body to his body,
Laughed; and plunging down
Forgot in cruel happiness
That even lovers drown." ~ William Butler Yeats 1869-1935

  1. Your post makes me think of the movie "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" where all the dolphins are leaving the earth and are singing, "So long, and thanks for all the fish..." :)
