Daily Draw: Llewellyn Tarot ~ Empress

Heavy with child is how many Empress cards are painted which seems a sledge to push a tack and so in-your-face the myriad facets of the Empress are lost in the idea of mommy. Unconditional love and what it births, which crosses all worlds and life forms is represented by Rhiannon. The crux of her meeting Pwyll came after he chased her for three days with the fastest horses in the realm, finally crying out 'stop'. And she did, indicating he could have saved everyone time and trouble if he'd asked that first.

I'm reminded by this card how important clear communication is in relationships of all kinds. Humans aren't mind readers, if we want or need something we should say, rather than get cross because we think someone who loves us should just know. How often does that happen? Not often enough to count on. Life is short, speak up.

Loneliness is never more cruel than when it is felt in close propinquity with someone who has ceased to communicate." ~ Germaine Greer 1937-

The beautiful 2006 Llewellyn Tarot is my deck choice this week. Commissioned art and 264 page companion book by Anna-Marie Ferguson. Published by Llewellyn Worldwide as part of their celebration of the life of Welshman Llewellyn George, the founder. The majors follow the story line of the Welsh Maginogion.

  1. I have many friends who never had children, yet they are the ones who, more than any other, inspire people with the art they produce, show compassion for the unloved and neglected, and give of themselves unselfishly to their communities. "Unconditional love and what it births, which crosses all worlds and life forms" describes them well.
