Modern Celebrity

Daily Draw: Elemental Tarot ~ 8 of Wands

Fame vs Notoriety
Position of esteem vs notice by reputation

I'm reminded by this card there are plenty of people who will follow/adulate/worship/admire anyone with a whiff of celebrityhood.  I expect it is an awkward pose to hold whether the position is earned or accidental.

"Look guys, if you're just going to stare at me, I'm going to bed!" ~ Elvis Presley 1935-1977

  1. Interesting things to think about there Sharyn. Celebrity has always seemed kind of silly to me, but it has fallen to an all time low over here in the UK. Anyone can be a celebrity; and for any reason. You can be a celebrity for having an affair with someone or being kicked off of a talent show. Some young people see this and want the fame too. Before, it seemed as though people became known for doing something worthy of the attention. Fame itself seems so empty to me. And I like what you say about holding the awkward position. Yes, that makes a lot of sense.

I always remember Madonna saying something in an UK interview about fans standing outside of her house, staring at it for long periods of time. When asked what they were doing while she was away, she replied 'they're still there, waiting for me to come home'.

I welcome your thoughts. Good bad or indifferent; opinions are the lifeblood of conversation and I always learn something from a new point of view. Thank you for visiting, Sharyn
