Boggles My Mind

Daily Draw: Thousand and One Nights Tarot ~ Hanged Man

Titled the Bound Man in this deck we see a raggedy man being led by a rope around his neck. In the background a burro is being beaten. Are we to assume both men and animals are possessions and deserve no more than they get? That has been the case through history right up to today.

I'm reminded by this card, and a conversation I had yesterday, about bullying. It has always been with us, yet each instance exposed surprises us once again with it's cruelty. Are we really so bound to our dark nature that this behavior gives us something of value?

"Stefan spat. "Oh, aye, he fell. O' course, Master Ralon helped him fall, several times. Poor li'l tyke didn't have a chance." ~ Tamora Pierce 1954-, Alanna: The First Adventure

  1. bullying as children, much worse things as adults. the fact that it does seem to be so universal in human nature is disheartening, but i try to think of it in terms of balance. we're capable of doing some amazing, kind, deeply generous things for one another; its only natural, i suppose, that we'd also be capable of being terribly cruel. less satient creatures tend to be limited in both capacities.

I welcome your thoughts. Good bad or indifferent; opinions are the lifeblood of conversation and I always learn something from a new point of view. Thank you for visiting, Sharyn
