The Dreaded Double Standard

Daily Draw: Legend the Arthurian Tarot ~ Empress

Muddy myths surround Guenevere, daughter of Leodegan, wife of Arthur, lover of Lancelot, prisoner of Melwas. Was she a true Celtic queen with all the rights and responsibilities due the king? Or was she a treasonous harlot?

I'm reminded by this card double standards seem to still rule. It is the nature and curse of people to either judge harshly or emulate fawningly with very little discernment either way.

"There have been many more beautiful women, and thousands who were better, but since the world was weaned I doubt there have been many so unforgettable as Guinevere, eldest daughter of Leodegan, the exiled King of Henis Wyren. And it would have been better, Merlin always said, had she been drowned at birth." ~ Bernard Cornwell 1944-   The Winter King

  1. A woman in a man's world has her work cut out for her. I think of intelligent, capable women like Hilary Clinton, who some claim is a cold hearted bitch and others call her a stupid cow. Thank goodness there are some strong ones who aren't much affected by public opinion.
