Self-Philanthropy

Daily Draw: Roots of Asia Tarot ~ 6 of Coins

Are the coins the gift, or are the elephants the gift? Is this heart mind soul hanging from the ancient tusk? In times other than these, the coins managed properly would become the elephant.

Self-Philanthropy has become the elephant on America's back. Piled on and on and on until the elephant collapses with us under it. We just can't see it yet.

"Somewhere, in the shuffle of living our self-absorbed lifestyle, we have forgotten why we felt compelled to give in the first place.". ~ Lindsey Williams Posh Seven

    2. A thought provoking comment. From the simultaneous positions of being a 'have' and a 'have not' maybe this card is about giving and receiving contemporaneously. I think I read somewhere that until we learn the humility to receive our giving is not loving just self-aggrandisement but I hadn't connected that to this card before. :)

  2. I read somewhere about a study that showed that giving (not just money, but time, attention, etc.) was what produced the most lasting joy. BUT, only if it was done without the expectation of getting anything in return from the receiver. I wonder what happens with the expectations of the receiver...

  3. This reminds me of the pharisees who gave to the poor in places where everyone could come and watch how philanthropic they were

    1. NOT to get into politics..but several reporters have been looking for any philanthropy from Mr. Trump. Going clear back into the 80's and forward, hoping. Nada except what others have donated to his foundations or comp rooms at his resorts.Odd that. And he has a habit of stiffing hotels he stays at, including a number just since the convention. It feels like I'm watching the biggest train wreck in modern times, but I can't quit looking. OK, putting the computer away now.
