The Worm Always Turns

Daily Draw: Art of Life Tarot ~ King of Coins

I was looking for the source of "it takes three generations to make a fortune and one generation to lose it". A misremembrance. My query resulted in a lot of similar findings regarding how long it takes to lose something. No wonder our Kings of Coins always look so grumpy.

  • How long does it take to lose a culture? One generation. Ken Ham
  • It Only Takes One Generation for a Church to Die. Sean Lucas
  • 70% of Rich Families Lose Their Wealth by the Second Generation. Chris Taylor, Reuters
  • In three generations, a dynasty will have run its course. Douglas Tong
A perfect example?  William Henry Vanderbilt’s (1821-1875) heirs. His fortune at death? Over $300 billion in today’s dollars. However, by 1973, in just two generations, not a single heir was even a millionaire.

"Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction." ~ Ronald Reagan 1911-2004

  1. The fool and his money are soon parted. I don't think the King of Pents is that fool. Now those that get their hands on his stockpile have proven time and again; if you don't work for it you don't appreciate it.

  3. I think when you only enjoy wealth instead of help create it, it is easy to fail to take any responsibility in sustaining it.

  4. Agree with all of the above. Often Those who receive without effort fail to appreciate every second, hour, day, week, month of good stewardship...funny how one generation can be so different from the previous...
