Showtime

Daily Draw: Chinese Tarot ~ 4 of Coins

Hoarder, skinflint, setbacks, spendthrift. The art for this card has many variations making it fun when it comes up in a reading, by noting the cards on either side. Our figure here looks to be celebrating what he has, or perhaps making a show of what he owns.

I'm reminded by this card most of us fall into three categories when it comes to money. Those who work to have, those who work to spend, those who choose to not work at all.

"Words are the coins making up the currency of sentences, and there are always too many small coins." ~ Jules Renard 1864-1910

A Cup Is A Cup Is A Cup Is A Cup

Daily Draw: Tarot of the Spirit ~ Ace of Cups/Water

Water as fire. My power is provided by seven dams across the Columbia River which rolls by at the foot of my hill. I see and admire it every day, and I know the dams = energy, but the concept of water = fire hadn't registered.

I'm reminded by this cup there are many things, basic facts of living life on earth, that I am so oblivious to as to make my brain = doorknob. On the other hand I know quite a lot about earthworms. I'm reading The Earth Moved by Amy Stewart. I'm thinking of digging a cup of red wigglers from the garden and treating them to dinner at the compost bin. Worms and bees, we'd have a poor world without them.

Light

Daily Draw: Tarot of the Spirit ~ Hermit

In darkness we are our own light.

Easy to forget... If we maintain dark thoughts, if we seek out dark company, if we hone in on dark news we inadvertently create our own depression, our personal end of the world. Both those things can happen all by themselves, they don't need our help to become. Become the opposition, create the light.

"I would hurl words into this darkness and wait for an echo, and if an echo sounded, no matter how faintly, I would send other words to tell, to march, to fight, to create a sense of hunger for life that gnaws in us all." ~ Richard Wright 1908-1960

Oh Mel

Daily Draw: Tarot of the Spirit ~ 2 of Wands/Fire

On the 23rd we had the Ace, the kindling, the paper, the wood. But no place to put it.  With the 2 of Fire, we have the idea for a pit barbecue.

I'm reminded by this card it seems a simple plan. Dig hole, start fire, toss in Snark. Would that life were that simple. We probably need this fail, to make us realize we need to know how deep, lining, size of Snark to determine how many embers and how long they will burn, what the cover material should be, and if Snarks are even edible.

Eldritch

Daily Draw: Tarot of the Spirit ~ 6 of Cups/Water

Titled Pleasure in the Thoth deck, Eakins has renamed hers Faith. A type of slate wiped clean mankind can be redeemed, relationships are worth the work, hold to a childlike innocence of the Waite 6 of cups.

I'm reminded by this card, I'd welcome that world, but having no faith in man the only upside is the eldritch would be easier to spot. I could live with that.

"Faith means belief in something concerning which doubt is theoretically possible." ~ William James 1842-1910

Physical Mental Spiritual

Daily Draw: Tarot of the Spirit ~ Sun

Triad. Body Mind Spirit. A three part harmony, and a term much overworked.

I'm reminded by this Sun, it isn't too difficult to achieve that union, the problem comes in trying to maintain it.  My spirit stays the course, my mind wanders. My body rolls over and enters a hypochondriac war zone. When dead, all three will revolt from boredom. That's life...

"One out of four people in this country is mentally unbalanced. Think of your three closes friends; if they seem OK, then you're the one." ~ Ann Landers  1918-2002

The Other Truth

Daily Draw: Tarot of the Spirit ~ Knight of Swords/Brother Wind

The sky is falling, Earth is flat, the moon is cheese. Confronted with this our Knight is struggling with belief vs knowledge.

I'm reminded by his pinwheeling arms we can struggle against facts, work to understand, accept, refuse completely. We can busy our minds, work our bodies to exhaustion, troll our brains out in opposition,  that other truth will remain. Did you know there is an active Flat Earth Society? Using unbelievable technology to connect.

"I just bought a closed brain, and I've read that they have sweeper tentacles that come out at night.  So my question is, how far will these tentacles reach?  I mean, I need to figure out how far away to keep him." ~ UtahReefs

Day Well Met

Daily Draw: Tarot of the Spirit ~ Ace of Wands/Fire

In a Thoth based deck, this is where life and time and journey begin.

I'm reminded by this card to open and go forward each day. Available are options, always. To drug up, to open a new book, to pick up the fight where we left off, to open our minds to something beyond our hardwired belief.

Yesterday I sat in a room with seven other quilters, mostly listening. We are all passionate about quilting, but as stories came out we had all walked paths as different as night and day. There probably isn't another area of our life where we might have met and grown. I'm glad I went.

"Of those qualities on which civilization depends, next after courage is an open mind, indeed, the highest courage is, to stake your all upon a conclusion which you are aware tomorrow may prove false." ~ Irving Dillard

Preppers

Daily Draw: Tao Oracle ~ Power of the Small

Hexagram 9
Imprudent to force change, avoid despair
Depend on intuition, be devoted to the truth
Let go of anxiety, doubt, strategies of the ego
Remain detached, maintain gentleness and dignity
Abide by proper principles, share with others
Move forward cautiously and conscientiously

I think there have always been preppers, and certainly post WWI and WWII and the red menace of the 1950s and 1960s when long term food storage became possible. Is their attitude and actions strengthened by associating with other preppers? Or by associating true conditions with practical need?

Did you know you can start fire with a few shreds of steel wool and the contact end of a battery? I'm reminded by this card the world is stuffed with people who will happily take whatever they want, leaving preppers on the curb gnawing on their boot leather.

That Chiquita Sticker

Daily Draw: Tao Oracle ~ Arousing

Hexagram 51
Shock frightens us, our assumption is it is always bad
Do not resist the unpleasant circumstances
Do not allow shock to propel you into negative conduct
Mired in resistance, living in ego
Repeated shocks occur, quiet is a refuge
Engaging invites disaster.

This hexagram needs to be pasted to my forehead
How could I possibly engage a world governed by madmen.
How can my grief matter against a world filled with grief, how could my resistance possibly matter. Some time chatting with my little girls may be in order.

My banty rooster Peanut, about four inches, he grew to an enormous six or seven inches, and is impeccable in his rooster duty. He also prefers his women larger than himself. Perhaps there is a lesson in that.

Nope No Nada

Daily Draw: Tao Oracle Dispersion

Hexagram 59
Heal misunderstandings
Hold a moderate view of others
Dissolve grievances and unstructure your attitude
Sacrifice the attitude or short term goal
Gather around a positive ideal
Focus on the positive, neutral, calm

Ain't happening here. They started it.....
Funny how I view my life as a positive,
and can be totally negative in one respect.

Untoxic

Daily Draw: Tao Oracle ~ Decrease

Hexagram 41
Give aid to others
Truly help others
Relinquish the inferior, replace with superior
Cultivate innocence
Follow the good at every turn
Be still, be generous

Good advice all. I see the words I read the words
yet within my footprint I'm doing none of this.
At the moment it is all about me and being frightened.

A million people will die tomorrow, I doubt I'll be one of them. I need to untoxic my brain, too much carpola floating at the top. Can it be done? According to Hexagram 41, yes.

8-Bit

Daily Pick: 8-Bit Tarot ~ Moon

Art based on arcade games.  What more is there to say at the end of Moon week? If you can think it, you can take tarot's iconic images and do it.

I'm reminded by this card not every idea is worth birthing unless as an amusing exercise akin to sheep jumping the shark, somewhere between waking and dreaming.

"Jump the shark. Reach a point at which far-fetched events are included merely for the sake of novelty, indicative of a decline in quality." (origin from Happy Days with Fonzie on skis in his leather jacket)

Cry Baby

Daily Pick: Japaridze Tarot ~ Moon

The moon card says something in our dark side is up and active.

I'm reminded by this tethered eyeball, I cried yesterday, for the first time since I was diagnosed with a disease of the retina, MacTel 2. Which tells something about me...I cry when I'm furious, not when I'm sad.

I see what you see, I just see it bent. I'm fortunate and thankful to see what I do. The bigger problem is the depth perception. The eye of a needle is bent to the left. There can be two or three thread ends. Eyeglasses on, headband magnifiers on, looking through a magnifying glass...nose to the project, I depend on luck. Sometimes it takes five minutes of trying to get lucky when needle, needle threader, and thread come together.

In webspeak this is TMI Too much information. Just having a whine. And this moon card reminds me, I'm glad I didn't buy this deck, I'd really be whining.

Oddball Suits

Daily Pick: Halloween Tarot ~ Moon

This deck did three weeks service here in 2007, 2008, 2009. Where did it go wrong, that it was no longer worth keeping? Suits.

I'm reminded by this card, this deck is the reason I drew a line in the sand, refusing to use oddball suit names on the blog. If I do a search for Knight of Swords, I want all those posts to come up. I've relented enough to now list the silly names along with my searchable four. Funny how we see our movement on a path in hindsight. Some times it is a revelation, sometimes we wonder what took us so long to "get it".

Sing a song of silly suit names... Bats, Imps, Pumpkins, Ghosts

Revenge

Daily Pick: Hermetic Tarot ~ Moon

"As a Golden Dawn study deck, the card images are fundamentally focused on alchemical and astrological references such as the decans in the Minor Arcana, with the deck outfitted for theurgy." Benebell Wen

I hear it, but I don't understand it...I didn't keep this deck long although I just checked and did blog with it in 2009. Perhaps it falls in the All Corn, All The Time compartment of my brain.

I'm reminded by this card, yesterday's made me feel claustrophobic, reading this one feels like a Travis McGee revenge for not being very bright.

Claustrophobia

Daily Pick: Royal Thai Tarot ~ Moon

"The Royal Thai Tarot has been created for fortune-telling by Sungkom Horharin. The authentic artwork (limited to the major and court cards) has been created by Thai artists and honors the art, culture, history and religion of Thailand." Kate Hill, Aeclectic Tarot

Para Rahu. Who  covers the Sun then spits it back out, explaining eclipses. Black food is offered to appease this god and ward off bad luck.

I'm reminded by Rahu, superstition/religion around the world is much like kindergarten. Where we learn about pecking order, worshiping the biggest kid, counting ourselves safe, right before we get creamed. Does faith really offer comfort? I prefer reality, it gives  me something to fight. The thought of hiding in a foxhole gives me claustrophobia, I'd rather moon the lot of them.

“The root of all superstition is that men observe when a thing hits, but not when it misses." ~ Francis Bacon, Sr.  1561-1626

Pisces Made Me Do It

Daily Pick: Golden Thread Tarot ~ Moon

"Golden Thread Tarot started out as a simple illustration project where I illustrated a card each day. I chose what to design by pulling a random card in the morning. This deck is the product of that project." Tina Gong, Artist

I don't own this deck, I pulled the image off the web because I liked the deck name. Searching for her thoughts on her moon card, within a few minutes I found the information below on various websites.

Self described: Professional Creepster. General shenanigans starter. Product designer and illustrator. Pea and Llama enthusiast. Awkward as Shit. Pokemon Master. Milkmusket. Thistleweeds. And the deck is made from recycled plastic, I'd love to see how it shuffles.

I don't know if this post says more about me or her. But the Moon would have us look within ourselves for the What Why Who Where How of our immediate concerns.  I  know squat about astrology and most everything else...perhaps today Pisces reveals all I need to know.

Strengths: Compassionate, artistic, intuitive, gentle, wise, musical
Weaknesses: Fearful, overly trusting, sad, desire to escape reality.

Tongue In Cheek

Daily Pick: Herbal Tarot ~ Moon

Art by Candice Cantin under the direction of herbalist Michael Tierra.
Each card represents a different medicinal herb based upon intuition, astrological and energetic values. (US Games)

I'm reminded by WebMD this mint family plant is reputed as a treatment for nearly everything, including flatulence and dementia.

I'm reminded by Tarot.com every single Moon card  means "we dream and go into trance, have visions and receive insights, wash in and out with the psychic tides, and experience deep mystical and/or terrifying realities beyond our ordinary senses."

I'm reminded by this card, tarot cards, the bibles of the world, and medicine can be interpreted to mean anything we want.  Finding the truth requires turning the brain on.

Cannibalistic

Daily Draw: Tarocco Piemontese Tarot ~ 10 of Coins

Past the 'pull by date? Or, reaching the place in life or commerce, where keeping all the coins in the air is the job.

I'm reminded by this card, it has taken 50 minutes to write this post. Success, a symbiotic arrangement, usually cannibalistic.

Grunts

Daily Draw: Tarocco Piemontese Tarot ~ 3 of Coins

Pulling it all together requires direction and teamwork.

I'm reminded by this card of the woodworking, rock and gem, survivors, cosmetologist,  china painting, fly fishing etc shows, and the attendent merchant malls I've taken in. Licensing exams, public transportation, schools, concerts, funerals... To mount a show of any kind needs planning, coordination, and most of all, the smiling grunts. Where would we be without us? Today it is quilt show!

"The flight attendants on WestJet got the two sides of the plane to have a competition that involved unrolling and passing a roll of toilet paper to the back while the person in the front held the tail end. If the paper broke, you had to start again. Whichever side finished first got to deplane first."  Meyer

Dramatic

Daily Draw: Tarocco Piemontese Tarot~ 6 of Wands

 Good stewardship = dramatic results.

I'm reminded by this card, dramatic isn't a guarantee for good. How many times have I gotten the pie in the face even with best intentions, hard work, nose to the grindstone, time is money, shoulder to the wheel, feet on the ground, head on shoulder facing forward, eye on the ball.

"Keep your nose to the wheel and your shoulder to the grindstone and you'll end up with a hunched back and a flat face." ~ unknown

Which Why

Daily Draw: Tarocco Piemontese Tarot ~ Pips

If you were playing a hard-nose game of Tarocco in 1517 would you know which pip was sword and which wand? Is it consistent across all pip decks, straight and curved?

I'm reminded by these cards, while sorting the deck by suit, because I didn't remember,  I've forgotten which card was my draw. Does it matter? Don't know. Why are three aces elegant and the Wand the dolt in the corner?

Wands are carried, Swords are wielded. Swords are brains and Wands brawn, like right click and left click on a computer mouse. My card must have been an eight, understanding and undertaking.

I think...curved is Sword, straight is Wand. Insight welcome. As an aside it has only taken me eighty minutes to write/erase/write this post. Definitely was an eight of something.

Pale Male

Daily Draw: Tarocco Piemontese Tarot ~ Ace of Swords

A sideslip into symbology of red feathers led me to Pale Male,
the New York central park red-tailed hawk, far more interesting than good fortune good health yada yada.

I'm reminded by this card to look past static meanings, keeping a hawk eye out for health and fortune where least expected.

"My jaw dropped open. “Holy crows…”
“There’s a couple of eagles mixed in there,” Luke commented.
“And a few hawks,” Aiden added.
I rolled my eyes. “Okay. Holy birds of prey! Is that better?”
“Much,” Aiden murmured." ~ Jennifer L. Armentrout 1980-

Too Much

Daily Draw: Tarocco Piemontese Tarot ~ 7 of Cups

In the Thoth system this card is Debauch.
In the Waite system , at root, too many choices
Mather's Marseilles can be read as Reflection, Projection

I'm reminded by this card, right now I have too many choices for doctors. Other lands can only wish they had a health system like ours. Doctors when needed, at appointments that work for the patient. Amazing. Reversed card? Too many choices for doctors...you can make yourself sick thinking up acres of illness in which to wallow.

"We should try and have a stable mental state." ~ Dalai Lama 1935-

Careening Chariot

Daily Draw: Tarocco Piemontese ~ Chariot/Il Carro

The path. How do we possible chart what thought or movement leads to something totally unrelated years down the line? My interest in the cards goes back to 'learn something new' each year. A random look at what Barnes & Noble University was offering. Ah..much to learn about the history and symbology, a meaty subject, I'm in.

I'm reminded by my mental Il Carro + time + the three years I spent caring for my father-in-law as his mental chariot drew away at the speed of light. The only real constant in my life was my morning draw.

"But at my back I always hear Time's winged chariot hurrying near." ~  Andrew Marvell ~ 1621-1678
