The Reset

Daily Draw: Etruscan Tarot ~ 8 of Cups
I need to do a reset. Because my life is mundane, I seldom actually do a 'reading' with more than one card. Hence the attempt to read this week's cards as a whole, on resetting my card use.

Chariot driver faces forward, ready to move on.
4 of Coins, hanging on, avoiding spending current knowledge in aid of more knowledge.
10 of Cups, lazy in the present, something more might upset the status quo of comfort in the known card habit.
Death, two majors in this spread, both saying it won't kill me to move on, try something new, rehone skills.
Justice, third major, telling me bluntly, I've let the prey become the master.
8 of Wands, Addressing the fear of putting myself out there, in public. Why not?

I'd love hearing anyone else's thoughts on how these cards are advising me.

Dive Dive Dive

Daily Draw: Etruscan Tarot ~ 8 of Wands

what is this figure diving for? Nuclear Reactor Diver, Underwater Criminal Investigator, Safety /Crocodile Wrangler? There is more to diving than being a Navy Seal, or grabbing up pearls for the punters.

I'm reminded by this card I didn't even know the first and third job existed. Being quick to judge can be a full time job if we let it.

Justice

Daily Draw: Etruscan Tarot ~ Justice

The winged figure is separating the hunter from the prey.

I've been involved in several lawsuits, a position to be avoided if at all possible. I've also done jury duty three or four times. Always interesting, and good for the brain, a juror has to proceed from all sides, your personal side is immaterial. I'm not sure justice is even possible, but in some cases it is worth trying for.

On the other hand, have a laugh and a big sigh regarding frivolous lawsuits

The Eyes

Daily Draw: Etruscan Tarot ~ Death

I saw death in the eyes of a two month old calf yesterday.

I wish animals ran the world and dumb, people took what was offered, good bad or indifferent.

TMI?

Daily Draw: Etruscan Tarot ~ 10 of Cups

Eating while reclining was de rigueur in ancient Rome, although I'm doubting families without servants did. Without tv or computer, they had to do something, inviting people to dine was a favorite and meals eaten while stretched out on cushions went on for hours.

I'm reminded by this card reclining during and after meals is an excellent way to allow stomach acid to eat up the food pipe/esophagus, leading to heartburn and eventually esophageal cancer. Guess how I know.

I've had a persistent cough for at least a year, getting worse steadily, wheezy, from the chest. Limiting my willingness to go anywhere in public. Went to the pulmonologist I had for lung cancer, she ran every scan and test under the sun, both of us thinking lung cancer was knocking again. As her last resort option, she put me on omeprazole. Three days later, I'm not coughing my guts out all night, and just a few times during the day.  If you get the hot burny burp thing, think about your position while eating. I eat sitting up but I'm just lucky with weird medical stuff and I never had the burny warning, just a world record cough. TMI? Only because I care.

Get A Grip

Daily Draw: Etruscan Tarot ~ 4 of Coins

I can't begin to imagine what it is like to lose a home to fire, earthquake, bomb, mudslide...like having cancer twice, it would change the view of life and what has value.

I'm reminded by this card it would be nice to just order a mind wipe without the attendant drama.

Gimcrack

Daily Draw: Etruscan Tarot ~ Chariot

What could I possibly need from a department store that is working on a delivery service within two hours?

I'm reminded by this card Americans are bleeding money from every pore. For chotchkes and gimcracks. We don't need an enemy, we are the enemy.

Mr. and Mrs. Sprat

Daily Draw: Enchanted Tarot ~ 7of Cups/Hearts

Castles in the air.  Any imagining you've carried your whole adult life?

Thin. Crazy. In hindsight, I've even been thin a number of times but I didn't see myself as thin, just less fat. I think I have nothing in common with bingers, purgers, anorexic sticks. I think all the fat shaming and paper thin models are only modern complications.

No. It was going on when I was a child too. I remember asking mother to take me to the family doctor when I was 7 or 8 to see if there was something medicine could do for me. I expect there was eye rolling 'tween doctor and mother, but I got a bottle of pills, I was to take one before meals. Zero doubt they were sugar pills, and I eventually forgot about help.

Cripes, the things the cards pull up. From childhood to well into my 30s I was just right. Where did I get the idea I wasn't? Even today, people bigger than I would wish to be my size. Crazy. Did you know the Jack Sprat nursery rhyme dates back to circa 1660? It relates to wartime taxes but at its base?...

Gimme Gimme

Daily Draw: Enchanted Tarot ~ King of Cups/Hearts

Kindness personified.

Balancing that big heart must be intuitive perceptions and the ability to say no. Lest he be eaten alive by the gimme-ers.

Sweet Peas

Daily Draw: Enchanted Tarot ~ Empress

Our Enchanted author would have us plant one seed in half an eggshell to continue the Empress nurturing thing. All the 'enchantments' written for each card in this deck are spirit nurturing. The book is the best part of the set.

I'm reminded by this card of the five abused nearly-dead marked down sweet pea starts Rob hauled home from the nursery. He probably doesn't connect the two but he was raised in a destructive home and fostered out any number of times and he often works to save the broken or orphaned whatever. This time, the sweet peas responded to care, and are busy growing up strings on my deck. I can hardly wait until they flower. (((Rob)))

Clove Tea Anyone?

Daily Draw: Enchanted Tarot ~ Queen of Coins

The companion book suggests to attract the treasure and stature of this queen, make a cup of clove tea. While drinking it think of people with whom you can share these riches.

This idea made me look up clove tea. I find once again, a cure-all for everything...stimulates blood flow, saliva production, and gastric secretions to aid in digestion. It has anti-nausea effects. Clove tea has also been used to kill intestinal parasites and works equally well at killing bacteria and fungus infections, such as oral thrush.

I'm reminded by this card even queens can believe six impossible things before breakfast. I, on the other hand, believe none of it. If I invite someone to tea it is for the friendship of it, not the magic.

Ittsy Bittsy

Daily Draw: Enchanted Tarot ~ 8 of Wands

Sometimes hurry isn't an option. Rob handed me my cup of coffee, I sat down, shuffled, fanned, drew my card. Turned on the computer, and what the heck? All my type size settings were gone. What was left was the default size. Grains of sand! Miniscule microns! Ittsy Bittsy...a wand in our wheel spoke took up shrieking.

I'm reminded by this card when something is just right we don't visit the three bear's house. Our bed is right, our chairs are right, our porridge is right and we don't give it a thought. Here is to all our bits being 'just right'. And left alone. Don't mess with my stuff.

Celebrating A Win

Daily Draw: Enchanted Tarot ~ 6 of Wands

I'm trying to think if I've ever entered any physical contests. None as an individual.  I played basketball for two years in high school, once I was old enough to get a real job that ended. In the 90s I entered a number of quilt shows, there is all kind of ribbons on the back of a door. And I'm thinking of entering the 365 quilt I'm working on now, it is so unusual.

I'm reminded by this card of victory I'm not a competitive person. I'm glad that stress isn't part of my life, although I do understand on some level. My competitor each day is me. My newest win? A six inch quilt block with 82 pieces which finished perfect to size. If you think that is easy, try it. Perhaps the key is our inside/backside has to be as good as the front?

Travesty

Daily Draw: Wildwood Tarot ~ 8 of Swords/Arrows

I've been sitting here for twenty-five minutes, furious, looking at this card, looking at googles return of 8 of Swords, looking at my blog for Greenwood 8 of Swords, looking at nature, and back to this.

I'm reminded by this deck, it has a convoluted backstory. I've had a  number of decks over the years I didn't care for, a few a really disliked, all have been traded or sold off. For the first time ever, I'm dropping deck and book in the burn barrel. I expect it to be cathartic.

Too Much

Daily Draw: WildWood Tarot ~ Devil/Guardian

This card is a crazymaker. As was yesterdays. As is the Great Bear on the Judgement card.

Rather than 'got nothing', I've got too much. And better things to do.

Needs

Daily Draw: WildWood Tarot ~ Queen of Coins/Stones

The bear knows every single thing she needs is found in nature. That looks like a barebones cave though and a human queen of coins may think filling needs isn't enough, humans being creatures of acquisition.

I'm reminded by this card a bear's needs are satisfied because they are simple. Humans are not. Probably the core reason I like post-apocalypse survival novels, what do survivors seek first? And more interestingly, ninth and tenth?

Wakey Wakey

Daily Draw: WildWood Tarot ~ 7 of Swords/Arrows

She is standing on a firm foundation but looks like she has fallen backward onto shed cedar tree tailings which are stickery and stiff. An uncomfortable place to be.

Given the keyword insecurity, does it mean first day on the job? Insecurity but with excitement. Or the insecurity that might come from the loss of a partner? Dining out alone is a real speed bump to conquer. "Just one?" "only you?" "All alone tonight?"  She lies in a place she can recover from, in spite of the arrows. The real question is will she choose to do so. Insecurity can be a place we live from, our base of every experience, or a jumping off point, just having a little respite here, thank you.

"The task which a person can and must set for himself is not to feel secure, but to be able to tolerate insecurity." ~ Erich Fromm 1900-1980

Bent Bow

Daily Draw: WildWood Tarot ~ 7 of Wands/Bows

Ready to accept the challenge.  I know my grammar is atrocious and my spelling skill are(is) nil. And whatever happened to(extra space)  my spell checker is crimiinal(criminal).
So I downloaded Grammarly three days ago. Beyond wanting to kick its arse for being a total bother, and the red underline frighteningly reminicent(reminiscent)  of second grade I'm actually having fun with it.

I'm reminded by these ready bows, part of their update of usage for those days, in(an) effort I'm sure, to get me to be a paying customer.
  • 15 corrections made (those are the ones I agreed with anyway...)
  • 320 unique words used. I wonder if they are counting Sharynisms and misspelled words as unique. Too early to decide if this is an extra bow in my quiver or a time suck.

Nutshell

Daily Draw: WildWood Tarot ~ 4 of Wands/Bows

All work and no play make Jack a dull boy.

I can't believe I told a preeminent NW pulmonologist to go outside and play yesterday.

Cross

Daily Draw: WildWood Tarot ~ Queen of Swords/Arrows

The Queen of thought. I've thought about this deck set a lot. I have huge issues about its true origin and one of the instigators. On the other hand, I love Will Worthington's art and I admire John Matthew's dedication to research. So I acquired it via trade for a deck I don't use.

I'm reminded by this card ethics can be cheaply sold for the right price. Don Miguel Ruiz would be cross with me.

Thank You

Daily Draw: Chinese Tarot ~ Queen of Wands/Staves

Know any women who are at the center of every volunteer group? Some women thrive on it, rather than get burnt out.

I'm reminded by this Queen, I'm not one of them, but I appreciate their Wands dedication. More power to them.

Guesstimating Truth

Daily Draw: Chinese Tarot ~ 7 of Swords

Looks like these four have a lot of aggravated aggression to work through. When I get mentally wound up like this I need to stop and ask if I have all the facts or just keywords.

I'm reminded by this card headlines aren't the story.
Eavesdropping and gossip have agendas.
Drama queen mode is a single-sided epic.
Taking in all information from one source cripples the truth.
Sneak thief and futile are two keywords for this seven.
Assuming that and moving without investigation is a sad loss of the real story.

Treasure

Daily Draw: Chinese Tarot ~ 5 of Wands/Staves

Five graybeards arguing the aesthetics of ancient paintings.

At least they have them to argue over. I doubt western United States will ever have anything man made ancient. Epic structures built at incredible expense are not made to last, but are imploded and razed for something newer, with some garish corporate sponsor's name all over it.  These old men are probably arguing for the fun of argument, because what they hold is treasure.

Alone

Daily Draw: Chinese Tarot ~ Knight of Cups

This Knight is portrayed as a general, drinking alone. Armor under, day clothes on top.

It is said, it is lonely at the top. I wonder. I know lonely is different from being alone. I'll be alone in my quilt room today, I can hardly wait to get there. I also know it is easy to be alone in a crowd. Alone is physical, lonely is mental.

Boarding

Daily Draw: Chinese Tarot ~ 3 of Coins

So good at the craft our figure is working up specialty skills to enhance the sport.
Bicycles, snowboards, kiteboarding, skateboarding, rollerskating, golfing, archery, surfing, fishing; what do they have in common? You can enjoy them or practice them alone or with a friend or with a crowd. The tools are relatively inexpensive and easily found.

We are told in school team sports are critical to learn teamwork. I'm just not buying it anymore. If I ever did. Ridiculous expenditures of funds that could be better spent on whole schools, vs ten or fifteen students.

Stumble Away

Daily Draw: Chinese Tarot ~ 8 of Cups

"A drinking melody by eight gods". This card is dedicated to poets and artists of the Tang dynasty, 618-907 BCE. I wonder if being remembered for this is preferable to not being remembered at all?

I said this once before here, but every single part of my life I regret was fueled by alcohol. I don't want to remember it, let alone being remembered because of it. Walking away isn't always a sad/bad thing.

"It is the wine that leads me on,
the wild wine that sets the wisest man to sing at the top of his lungs,
and laugh like a fool – it drives the man to dancing...
it even tempts him to blurt out stories better never told." ~ Homer   (c. 750 BCE)  The Odyssey
