Subtitled Perspective, this 3 of Earth is a poignant pointer of our situation this month as we deal with all the ramifications of being on strike. I could write for days...on how and why this has come to pass, plus all the history of unions and unionizing and how and why they came to be. But I won't.
I am reminded by this card of the heartbreak of men and women who have worked together peaceably for years now literally on opposite sides of the fence. Of surprise and outrage and one-sided viewpoints. Of lost income and lost accounts. Of the funny side (Washburn coming down with a professional bullhorn and entertaining security with the story of his fishing trip...from the time he woke up, buttoned his plaid shirt, zipped his worn denim pants, tied his brown tennis shoes...) and the heartbreak side. Because at this point neither side has any perspective, everything is narrow focus, me me me and them them them, no us at all. I weep as I write this because there will never be a winner, only losers.
"Each looked for an easier triumph, and a result less fundamental and astounding. Both read the same Bible, and pray to the same God; and each invokes His aid against the other. It may seem strange that any men should dare to ask a just God's assistance in wringing their bread from the sweat of other men's faces; but let us judge not that we be not judged. The prayers of both could not be answered; that of neither has been answered fully. The Almighty has His own purposes." ~ Abraham Lincoln 1809-1865
