Is It True?

Daily Draw: Bella Sara ~ Halloween

This little white ghostie horse's quote says "I will keep you safe".

I'm reminded by this card the nursing home where my mother is goes all out for holidays. There are wall spiders, ghosts, pumpkins, witches, tinsel, cobwebs... everywhere in the public areas. Viewed through the eyes of late stage dementia it is wildly confusing and mother no longer knows where she is in relation to her room when she goes out for her walks.

I'm reminded by this small horse ghost who says "I will keep you safe", tomorrow is moving day for mother. We are bringing her home with us and we are all looking forward to it.  Mother actually teared up in the hall when she saw me coming in. She said I know there has been some kind of talk about going home with you, but I couldn't remember, is it true, is it true?

I hadn't intended to do any packing yesterday, lest it confuse her today, but she insisted. There are dozens of pictures on her walls and each one has a story. She told it as we took them down, and she will tell it again when we put them up on her new walls tomorrow. For myself, I won't miss the two hour drive during which I cry going north and cry coming south.

"Right now I'm having amnesia and deja vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before." ~ Steven Wright ~ 1955-

  1. I can imagine there will come some sort of peace after she finally has settled in. She does seem to realize she is coming to live with you and is very happy about that. I wish you a beautiful time together with you mother. Enjoy and remember the stories....:)
