Daily Draw: Greenwood Tarot ~ Temperance/Balance

I know I'm failing at both, but darned if I can figure out what to do different.

I'm reminded by this card I got the 1 year all clear on the lung cancer today, and I did stop and ask if anyone could do a hair cut. Didn't get one, but thinking about it counts in my book. On the other hand ponytails on women my age just don't cut it...

Frogmarching Myself

Daily Draw: Greenwood Tarot ~ Sun

A powerful image of both receiving and giving. Many years ago I got sick and tired of my own negative thought patterns and changed the way I see my day and my life. The rest of the world...not so much.

I'm reminded by this card and the three years of gratitude journaling, what an enormous difference a thankful nature has made in my life. I am, bare none, the luckiest girl alive. In a few minutes I'll be behind my lawnmower, an enormous job, and I'll think of this wisdom from Thich Nhat Hanh: "Walk as if you are kissing the earth with your feet." from Peace Is Every Step

Daily Draw: Greenwood Tarot ~ 8 of Wands

Radiating heat and drawing in energy, I love this rendering of the 8 of Wands, a card bursting with promise and completion.

I'm going to soak up both today, what could be nicer?

Nailed Sock

Daily Draw: Greenwood Tarot ~ Ace of Cups

Like natures ability to recycle water millions of years old, we can reinvent ancient wisdom and apply it to our lives today.

I'm reminded by this card of the tasks I do each day that women have been doing before me for untold generations, keeping home. I try to have that first step inside say "welcome home".
The entry is slightly modified now, the New Home treadle is shoved tight against the book case, there are six lights on, and there is a white sock nailed to the corner of the bottom step so mother and her walker make each virgin trip down the hall safely. This is what any real home is; modified. Millions of women do this everywhere, keeping home, caring for family, with modifications. There is comfort in that.

Some come from ahead and some from behind.
But I've bought a big bat. I'm all ready you see.
Now my troubles are going to have trouble with me." Dr. Seuss  I Had Trouble Getting To Solla Sollew

Ruthless Respect

Daily Draw: Greenwood Tarot ~ 7 of Wands

A flick around with a dust rag to spring cleaning when even the rugs get drug out. An altering of a pattern to wholesale ruthlessness.

I'm feeling ruthless.

Fire Of Regret

Daily Draw: Greenwood Tarot ~ Guardian

Our own fears and secrets, turned against our self.
Pounding our own ka to dust.
Don't we have enough problems without making ourselves the enemy?

The rage is long gone, but the repercussions aren't.
I looked my parents in the eye and lied.
I wasn't there when my baby sister died.
I'm a useless caregiver.
I've wasted so much time and money over the years.
I wasn't brave enough or smart enough to see what formal education was worth.
I haven't supported my brothers.
It took far too long to see legends and myths for what they were.
Remember what I need, forget what I don't.
The past never changes, burn the club in the fire of regret.

"It was a pleasure to burn. It was a special pleasure to see things eaten, to see things blacked and changed." ~ Ray Bradbury 1920-2012  Fahrenheit 451

Disheveled Need Not Apply

Daily Draw: Greenwood Tarot ~ 2 of Swords

Her counterbalance is out of whack, her bow is smashed, her arrows face the self rather than the world. In-justice indeed.

I've been in court before judges in my misspent youth, I've served on juries three or four times, and I spent a miserable six months working for nine ego driven attorneys. Justice is blind, except when money is in the room.

"An unjust law is itself a species of violence. Arrest for its breach is more so." ~ Mahatma Gandhi 1869-1948

Who Benefits?

Daily Draw: Greenwood Tarot ~ 6 of Coins/Exploitation

When I first drew this card I thought in my ego-ridden way, hummm, no, can't think of any time of being exploited. When in the opposite big view this six is  about how the natural world and many of it citizens have been exploited since time immemorial.

I'm reminded by this card, yes, I'm a part of that. My vehicle, house, furnishings, and the food I eat each day, the power that runs the house are the result of someone or something having been ill treated or overused or even all used up. Sobering and seldom acknowledged.

"The human race cannot forever exist half-exploiters and half-exploited." ~ Henry Ford 1863-1947  My Life and Work

Polar Opposites

Daily Draw: Greenwood Tarot ~ Knight of Wands

A wanderer on the edge, smart enough to get by without actually buying into the rules and neediness of society in general.

I'm reminded by this Knight of polar opposites, each thinking the other is lacking, and both missing so much.

"I was a loner as a child. I had an imaginary friend...I didn't bother with him." ~ George Carlin 1937-2008

Spring Woodpeckers

Daily Draw: Greenwood Tarot ~ King of Wands/Adder

Male snakes entwine in spring rivalry. Woodpeckers peck our roof good morning, ain't I fine. Even our wither goats occasionally give each other a hug this time  of year.

What brought me to my Rob? He is a shaved and combed Clint Eastwood. What else do I need to say?

"Every good girl wants a bad boy who will be good just for her,
Every bad boy wants a good girl who will be bad just for him"

Choose Your Battles

Daily Draw: Enchanted Tarot ~ 9 of Wands

Ah. Unlike our gentleman of the 10 of Wands our lady of the 9 of Wands has listened to her father.
"keep your shoulder to the wheel"
"keep your eye on the ball"
"don't spend you money all in one place"
"watch your back"...we all know the dadisms.

I'm reminded by this card, as she prepares to set the last two wands, our efforts can become prison-like as the creation,  endeavor, or job must be maintained. It is the maintenance that become the burden. Sometimes it is better to release the older burden, let old efforts die a natural death, and rebuild with a fresh vision.

Daily Draw: Enchanted Tarot ~ Queen of Coins

Lady of Bounty that I am...well really I'm just out of room...I've finally gotten around to flinging onto Craigslist the things from my friend's estate.

I'm reminded by this card we don't need to be rich to share our bounty, just grateful and willing to look around at what we do have and couple it with what someone else doesn't have. I've met the nicest people this week. One young man's high school friends shifted into high gear and raised the cash in four days to get the motorized wheelchair. I can hardly wait to meet him and see him get volocity going down the driveway! He got the deal of the century and I get some room and joy.

Daily Draw: Enchanted Tarot ~ 10 of Wands

This guy is so busy with his load of whatever he doesn't realize a whole set of new problems have sprung up and are now making a secondary set of shoots. Whew.

I'm reminded by this card you'd think it would be impossible for a thinking living human being to be blindsided by the obvious, but it happens all the time. Happened to me yesterday and I'm still trying to get my jaw off the floor. Life is so interesting, if you look around instead of down.

"Sometimes, she had discovered, you have to walk around the holes in your life, instead of falling into them." ~ Priscilla Cummings Blindsided

Daily Draw: Enchanted Tarot ~ 5 of Wands

Wind-up toys don't have a brain,
they don't feel pain,
they just keep hitting the wall.

I'm reminded by this card you can't reason with demention. If they do understand by the time you turn around they've forgotten. It isn't mom's fault my key keeps going around and I keep hitting the wall. I sure can't seem to get shut your mouth, save your energy, through my brain. I've tried 'just for this hour'...but I forget. Am I on the slippery slope too?

"It is tedious when someone tells you that if you don't stop crying they will give you something to cry about, because if you are crying then you already have something to cry about, and so there is no reason for them to give you anything additional to cry about, thank you very much." ~ Lemony Snicket The Slippery Slope

My Way Or The Highway

Daily Draw: Enchanted Tarot ~ Knight of Coins

The good son of the soil. Not everyone has the time and funds for a higher education. Not everyone needs it. There are people born to farming and livestock. Experience and common sense has brought him a sense of completion, but also a type of arrogance and narrow mindedness.

I'm reminded by this card we can learn something from everyone we meet, part of the fun side of life.

"Had it not been for you, I should have remained what I was when we first met, a prejudiced, narrow minded being, with contracted sympathies and false knowledge. Wasting my life on obsolete trifles, and utterly insensible to the privilege of living in this wondrous age of change and progress." ~ Benjamin Disraeli 1803-1881

I'll Take The Bus

Daily Draw: Enchanted Tarot ~ Chariot

Brunhilde has aggressively fought to reach her goals and rides in triumph. But triumph is always brief even though it is hard to believe in the glory of the moment.

I'm reminded of today's crop; the rich and/or famous because they are good, because they are bad, famous for being famous, or suddenly dead. Are the Vegas stages and daytime talk shows plentiful enough to host them all when time moves on and new faces are triumphant? When is the last time we saw Beaver Cleaver, Rosie O'Donnell, or Mary Tyler Moore, George Bush? Time moves on, taking us with it, but that Chariot ride is just a quick trip around the park for mortals, don't forget to celebrate. I'll take the bus, the ride lasts longer, all the more to savor what has turned out right.

"There are many who find a good alibi more attractive than an achievement, for an achievement does not settle anything permanently. When we have a valid alibi for not achieving anything we are fixed, so to speak, for life." ~ Eric Hoffer 1902-1983

It's All In The Point Of View

Daily Draw: Enchanted Tarot ~ 6 of Cups/Hearts

The pure joy of the nostalgia of childhood. My mother spends most of her time there, running through the Iowa corn fields, bringing in the cows, finding the eggs, the yellow school bus, a childhood of plenty and safety.

I'm reminded by this card mother was born in 1925 and now her most vivid memories take place during the great depression. Yet there is never a feeling of need or shortage. She started out with chamber pots, wood stoves, traveling by horse. There weren't any safety nets in place then, yet the depression barely touched them because as a farm family their self sufficient good life was the place many fell to, thinking they'd arrived at hell on earth.

Daily Draw: Elemental Tarot ~ 3 of Wands

This card is all about positivity used creatively.

I'm reminded by the two sunflowers of how I've used them as an icon of health, in positive ways since I've had cancer. I read the idea in a book, to choose something personal that always uplifts, and it was a good suggestion. I've used these two today to power clean my office. Clean and tidy always results in creativity boosts for me.

"I am working with the enthusiasm of a man from Marseilles eating bouillabaisse, which shouldn't come as a surprise to you because I am busy painting huge sunflowers." ~ Vincent Van Gogh 1853-1890

The Moat Is Filling

Daily Draw: Elemental Tarot ~ 4 of Cups

Ahh, she seems serene and confident within her moat. But we can see the water rising and so does her little-me.

Mother took another step into dementia's maw yesterday evening and while she took it calmly at the moment she spent the next 12 hours in emotional and physical uproar. I'm reminded by this card dealing with dementia is a hands on close up situation, but it also requires mentally stepping back for a good over-view to see if something actually triggered the step or if it will be a true slide.

"He who would be serene and pure needs but on thing, detachment" ~ Meister Eckhart

Daily Draw: Elemental Tarot ~ Wheel

Does something speed and slow the wheel as this card shows?
Can anyone be warned off the path of the Wheel?
Is it even possible to get off the path?
Is something outside yourself the control and the uncontrollable?

Possibly. We seldom see the bus that hits us.
Sometimes. Interact with life and the wheel is always there.

"A little rudeness and disrespect can elevate a meaningless interaction to a battle of wills and add drama to an otherwise dull day." ~ Bill Watterson 1958- Calvin and Hobbs

Daily Draw: Elemental Tarot ~ 7 of Coins

I don't believe in fate, else why bother getting up in the morning. I do believe sometimes we are in the right place at the right time to allow some good to roll into our lives. Of course there is always the wrong place at the wrong time, but that is a card for a different day.

I'm reminded by this card the thing that luck brings us causes ripples, as does everything we do in life. A little wave action could be a pleasant thing today.

"All human actions have one or more of these seven causes:
chance, nature, compulsions, habit, reason, passion and desire." ~ Aristotle 384-322 BC

End Run Versus Constipated Life

Daily Draw: Elemental Tarot ~ 7 of Wands

The end run is when a player with the ball at one end of the field manages to go around all of the opposing team to  make a score at the other end of the playing ground.

I'm reminded by this card talking a subject to death makes me crazy. Just do it and then get on with whatever falls is my way. It isn't always the best way but it is a way to get past a constipated life.

"We cannot tell what may happen to us in the strange medley of life. But we can decide what happens in us. How we can take it, what we can do with it and that is what really counts in the end." ~ Joseph Fort Newton 1876-1950

Daily Draw: Elemental Tarot ~ 10 of Coins/Earth

We are wasteful of what we have and are blind to our real wealth.

I don't know if this is a USA thing or if the creeping kudzu of too much stuff covers the world by now, but I'm reminded by this card to be thankful for FlyLady, common sense, and recognition of the little joke in Hexagram 49.

Daily Draw: Elemental Tarot ~ Ace of Coins

New seeds, fresh starts. A sudden extravagance.

Yep. All three.

And everything that your own hands have wrought
And call those works extravagance of breath."

Daily Draw: Da Vinci Tarot ~ 3 of Coins

What viewpoint is guiding or confusing the issue?

The needles in the nerves appointment I had about 10 years ago which show how advanced carpal tunnel is. I would think in countries where torture is tolerated (probably everywhere but Canada and Iceland?) these needles are right up there with waterboarding. I swore I'd never ever do that again.

I'm reminded by this card it is all in the perspective. I have pain clear to the shoulder, the first three fingers feel like hot lava is pouring over them and it has been going on long enough to consider atrophy of the thumb may already be setting in. At what point does living with the symptoms over rule the thirty minute examination?

Daily Draw: Da Vinci Enigma Tarot ~ Hermit

What light shines in the darkness and solitude?
What shadows does it reveal?

Da Vinci retired to France three years before his death to the delight of King Francis who visited him often, usually bringing guests. Da Vinci was notably taciturn.

I'm reminded by this card we need darkness and solitude to recognize light and pleasurable company. And vise-versa.

"The dead keep their secrets, and in a while we shall be as wise as they, and as taciturn". ~ Alexander Smith 1879-1940

Fresh Air + Brain

Daily Draw: Da Vinci Enigma Tarot ~ Star/Way Shower

Dimmi: Where are things flowing?
What hopeful shoots are showing?

I got the whole huge yard mowed yesterday. Slept like a log.
And had a brainstorm how to sell some things on Craigslist that need to go. The problem being a woman in the sticks and strangers in the house. Fresh air in the brain is a good thing. Great idea!

I'm reminded by this card nature is a good thing.

"You get a wonderful sense of Leonardo's creative ferment, the amount of brainstorming going on underneath the painting is remarkable." ~ Martin Kemp 1942-

We Can But Try

Daily Draw: Da Vinci Enigma Tarot ~ 7 of Swords/Air

What Action Needs Taking?

Idea plus intent = action. Not all ideas are good, not all intent is pure. Not all actions turn out as intended.

I'm reminded by this card life is full of surprises, once we get off our duff and get some action going. Da Vinci was jailed for this drawing which portrays his idea of the christ child.

"Whatever you do will be insignificant but it is very important that you do it." ~ Mahatma Gandhi 1869-1948

Daily Draw: Da Vinci Enigma Tarot ~ Devil

What is keeping you in bondage?
What is attempting to dominate you in this matter?

The idea I have all the time in the world.

I'm reminded by this card if I could or better said, would continue on like I start my days my life would be a miracle of accomplishments.

"Lest he should wander irretrievable from the right path, he stands still." ~ William Hazlitt 1778-1830
