Daily Draw: Spiral Tarot ~ 2 of Coins

Moderation. Not my strong point.

I'm the epitome of harlequin suit.  No gray, only black and white.
Things I've chosen to be part of I give my full support.
Lurker I will not be.

Not a part? Out of mind and life.
In a world all alone this facet would probably be beneficial.
In the real world? Not so much.
I work against this every day, yet little moderation occurs.
I yam what I yam, doesn't mean I have to like or encourage it.

A Great Carrot

Daily Draw: Spiral Tarot ~ 7 of Wands

"Making a stand when challenged" Steventon
His wheat has gone to head but is way too short. What is he working with, cottonwood or willow saplings? If they are sprouting his climate is too wet to grow grain. Perhaps his challenge is personal stubbornness?

As if I can cast aspersions on how others deal with roadblocks and recalcitrant minds. I'm using a carrot on the stick on myself this week. To move some of the 'for ebay' sludge. My carrot is a small traveling sewing machine that better serves the reality of my vision. My pocketbook says go buy it, my character says go work for it.

Ain't Got The Time

Daily Draw: Spiral Tarot ~ Chariot

"sheer determination drives the apparently immovable chariot" Steventon

I like that take. How in the world? is a phrase we might say or hear. The potential is in all of us to rise above the easy way, just because we don't doesn't mean we can't.

"If you don't have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it over?" ~ John Wooden 1910-2010

Daily Draw: Spiral Tarot ~ High Priestess

"Self-sufficiency sometimes leads to isolation" (Steventon)
Twenty years ago to get a newspaper we had to go downtown. Maybe swing by the bank and talk to Liz, hit the mini-mart, see how Denise's husband was doing. See what was new at the quilt shop, pick up some bread at the grocers.

As much as I love the features of my computers, it has indeed removed the need to go out and press the flesh. I can't think of anything I can't order and have delivered. There aren't any questions that I need to wait to have answered. I don't have to go camping to know what the RV parks are like. I don't have to see someone to have friends. Weird old world.

Retro Trailblazer

Daily Draw: Spiral Tarot ~ 2 of Wands

An ageing bumpkin wondering where he went amiss, ignoring what the modern day world offers.
Someone longing for the good old days, when the day we live in is the only good old day we get.
A retro trailblazer waiting for everyone else to catch up, wondering where to lead the sheeple next.

I'm reminded by this card our differences are what make us interesting, and a little reflection and planning never hurt anyone.

I Don't Believe

Daily Draw: Game of Thrones Tarot ~ 8 of Coins

A blacksmith working on Faith of the Seven currency through the night. Eh? Through the night? Would a professional really be pounding something that intricate with a hammer? Could Faith coins that big be of any use as currency?

I've enjoyed working with this deck, it is an 8 of Coins product. Linen cardstock, hardback little book, beautifully cased. Well presented, even if I don't believe the 8 of coins image I know what it stands for.

The Aggregate

Daily Draw: Game of Thrones Tarot ~ 2 of Wands/Spears

Today's choice? Not a choice at all. According to Google, Blogger posts are now blocked in the EU. With a notice saying they and many others cannot acquiesce to the EU's demands about transparency in tracking.

Daenerys, whose fortunes have turned and turned again, watches Drogon soar and probably wonders if the clutch of three will be the only things trustable in her world.

Dragons are probably the only thing anyone can trust in today's online world. To believe otherwise is a fool's game, soaked in the hubris we have kept ourselves quiet, no one cares who little old me is or does. They don't, it is the aggregate of all the littles that matters.

Daily Draw: Game of Thrones Tarot ~ 3 of Swords

The sword hilts of House Stark, Lannister, Baratheon. From small sibling dramas to all out war, going back thousands of years. There is no thing too small to argue about, no person who cannot be used for bait or trade or ransom fodder.

I'm reminded by this card the closer someone is to the top of the pile the more clear the big picture becomes. While everyone in the small picture get crushed. What a way to run the circus.

Daily Draw: Game of Thrones ~ Star

"Keeping the faith" Liz Dean
Sansa's candle, lit in the high window, hoping for release and escape. Many lifetimes worth of adventures and terrors happen to each character in the course of these many books.

I'm reminded by this card, we savor or overcome what life gives us on an hour to hour basis. Keeping the faith for or against our circumstances helps ground us; knowing the whole of our life at once would probably break us. Starshine, eternal light of hope and balance.

Effort and Will

Daily Draw: Game of Thrones Tarot ~ 9 of Cups

Samwise has apparently made it to the Citadel, school of the Maesters. Sam had one of those tough guy fathers who was continually disappointed in him and let him know it time and time again. We have been watching Charlie Chan movies and although said with a smile he also constantly put down his sons. Words cut just as deep as swords although they aren't always meant to.

This 9 of Cups indicates Samwise rose above the situation in which he was left, with the help of a true friend and adults who saw he never gave up trying. The 9 of Cups isn't a gift, a free ride, a wishes granted card, but speaks of the real reward for our own will and effort to reach our goal.

Offense Defense

Daily Draw: Game of Thrones Tarot ~ 9 of Wands/Spears

"Determination, Defense, Boundaries" Liz Dean
I'm just half way through the second book of the series, so I have billions of characters to yet meet. And see suffer. And watch die. House Bolton's heraldry is represented by a flayed man presented upside down. To instill psychological terror before the battle.

But what about our own defenses in daily life? We hold back sharing ideas for fear of being laughed at. We hold back opinions rather than hurt someone's feelings, or share them in order to hurt. We might shun someone we don't like or invite someone in to live with us because they share the same goals.

I'm reminded by this card many actions we do unconsciously because our strongest feelings have been with us so long. I'm thinking to sit and have a cup of tea rather than catch up with the walkers Saturday was a form of defense, outsider, late to the party.

For The Pleasure

Daily Draw: Game of Thrones Tarot ~ 3 of Cups

"Celebration, friendship, replenishment" Liz Dean
I spent yesterday in the company of two aunts and five cousins. I could have begged off, I was bone tired and my eyes felt like furnaces.

Instead I jumped in the jeep with watermelon, carrot chips, and sauerkraut salad. Ate my first rice cracker. Covered my food tracker and ate two servings of broccoli salad that had a pound of bacon in it. Laughed till we cried. Reclined on the deck with the birds and a cup of tea while they walked four miles. Admired everything in Margie's house. A new cousin in law played the piano! Remembered those who are gone.

Clinking glasses, it was worth the trip. Thank you ladies, for the pleasure of your company.

Weeping Wallet

Daily Draw: Grand Etteilla ~ #60 Economy

After nothing but a cup of yogurt at 4:00 AM yesterday, I wandered the SLC airport hunting for food while waiting for my flight home last night.  Up and down three concourses.

Maybe I wasn't hungry, but tired. I ended up buying a small bag of popcorn. 5 US bucks. 4.24 euros. 31.63 Krones. 6.6 Australian dollars. My wallet is still weeping.

Mr. Lowy

Daily Draw: Grand Etteilla ~ 10 of Swords

Good I'm using reversals with this deck. "Sorrows and tears unless this card is upside down, in which case things get better"

Leaving in a few minutes for Salt Lake City and the first of twelve potential visits for experimental eye surgery. Thank you Mr Lowy, for your support toward finding a cure. Your generosity is unmatched.

Rob's Socks

Daily Draw: Grand Etteilla ~ #23 Queen of Wands

In comparing today's #23 with yesterday's #16, I see the former is holding a sword, as today's is holding a wand or stick. So is the Queen of Swords really vicious? Is the Queen of Wands really virtuous?

We could walk around with a bag over our heads for as much as we know someone else. I'm reading about the 1968 Tet offensive, and it noted one group, going by foot, had their C-rations in a sock tied to their belt. It struck me as a funny image so I asked Rob if he had ever done that.

He said no, as chopper crew, it was quick forays; if they came back alive, it was in  time for chow. But the sock was so nothing clanked if the soldier was on foot. Anyway...I learned something about socks I hadn't known before this week. Connected with the Queens...probably only by me.

Daily Draw: Grand Etteilla ~ #51 Empress

This card gives us the Empress as a malicious woman or widowhood. Known lots of widows, but can't think of a single malicious woman.

I consider myself fortunate, hearing about the bullying on-line and in person. The closest brush I've ever had was Martha, who liked to push me around in PE class. One day I slugged her in the chest and it stopped.

Today I'd probably be kicked out of school for assault and possibly sued.
It is a weird old world and I'm double glad I'm not a child of today.

Goody Two Shoes

Daily Draw: Grand Etteilla ~ #16 Judgement

"Invokes understanding and devotion,
or provokes suspicion and foolishness"

I have an anchor on it but judging is just one of my faults. I cringe from it in other people and when I hear it coming up in my mind I try to figure out what riles me and throttle the snark.

Sound goody two shoes to you? That is me. now guessing what you are judging. Getting my back up, with preconceived notions.

Yoga in a few hours. See me after that, and you will meet a woman incapable of judging anyone. For a few hours anyway.

Daily Draw: Grand Etteilla ~ #33 End of Worries

"A good card. Stimulates action and encourages imitative"

A century later this card is pictured as three swords through a bleeding heart. Perhaps second only to Death as a card querents hate to see come up in a spread.

Humans hate and dread change that upsets the equilibrium. If not ever offered the ending the 3 Sticks brings it would still be 1810 with electricity running water sterile hospitals being banned before beginning. Electricity letting the devil in, used water is icky, what? wash my hands being the viewpoint.

All that said to say, we always have and always will act with initiative when flummoxed by life. The better part of our nature.

Daily Draw: Grand Etteilla ~ #19 Capitol

Misery in poverty, going or coming from prison.
That would be a full day. If combined in a spread with #22 run away!

I've been to prison twice. Once in the mid-80s to visit a friend. He was brought down the stairs into an open meeting room. I rushed right over and gave him a big hug.  They marched him back upstairs and searched him. Not supposed to touch the inmates. I was red faced, but not sorry I got in a good hug, I expect it was the only one he had while incarcerated.

Once in the mid-90s to visit my little brother. They wouldn't let me in because the wand showed metal. My underwire bra as it turned out. I could take my bra off and go in or I could get out. I got out.

The lesson prison taught my brother was how to fine tune his ability to cadge.

Free Association Hairball

Daily Draw: Blum/Gern Runes ~ Laguz/Flow

A Julia Cameron task was morning pages. First thing when I got up, three pages, written fast, with no thought about spelling punctuation sentence structure.  Just words, flung.

I never read anything I'd written, but through the day I mentally worked over the hairball I'd harked up. Some years later I pitched the journal in the burn barrel, a poor mans funeral pyre.

But from that book of scribbles this blog eventually flowed out. I got over being private. or caring what anyone thought. Some day I'll even get over mother. I'm often amazed and occasionally horrified by what flows from my keyboard. I write for myself, and introduce me to me, via flow.

Take The Chairs

Daily Draw: Blum//Gern Runes ~ Inguz/Fertility

Energize to channel more energy. The more you do the more you can. Follow a type A person around for a day. Problem solve rather than avoid. The more you finish the more you can finish.

That all sounds like an affirmation that might be written on the bathroom mirror. That we might not notice anymore. I wonder what we would accomplish if we took all the chairs out of the house?

Seasons and Decades

Daily Draw: Blum/Gern Runes ~ Naudiz/Constrained

Who knows how we get there but most of us are carrying some kind of self made millstone. Millstones will grind exceedingly small, and we push and push, until that big kernel of doubt or hurt is fractured into many more small ones. Why do we do this to ourselves? Because we can? Because we are human and complicated?

Living with this we harm our physical health, destroy undeserving relationships, cut our self off from joy, and restrict our potential.

I've cut away personal millstones over the seasons and years of this century. They take time to grow and grind. And to recognize, own, and release them for what they are.

Vapor Dream

Daily Draw: Blum/Gern Runes ~ Gebo/Partnership

In the '90s we had a sideline of growing cut flowers. I had lobby sized bouquets where ever I spent much time. A hobby business that gave in nature, gave at home, gave at work, and gave a little money too.

We had a neighbor who wanted to make a partnership. He wanted to fly around the world to the great flower shows and buy new stock. We needed to think much bigger! We had seven hundred dollars in the flower account and me to do the grunt work, and both of us with full time jobs.

I sometimes think of that morning, Ken so excited and Rob and I looking bug eyed at each other...a shiny partnership dream made of vapor and nothing more.

Visually Grazing

Daily Draw: Blum/Gern Runes ~ Winja/Joy

To the Goths, this rune translated into pasture for contented grazing. The difference between surviving or not.

That is good enough for me, visually grazing on Hood Canal.

Inertia Incarnate

Daily Draw: Blum/Gern Runes ~ Ansuz/Signals

Slap in the face. Bolt out of the blue. Tripped over it. Blast from the past. Mother always said. Wake up call.

All said tongue in cheek, but it really does take a wake up call to get my attention now. I spent so long mind sick a lot of things got away from me.

It is only as I've come back into myself that the 'blind to it' things have began to reappear. First a little frown of puzzlement. Followed eventually by Am I blind or what? How did this happen?

This blindness is inertia incarnate. Where was I all that time?

Daily Draw: Etruscan Tarot ~ 7 of Swords

"woman hides face and knife" Minetti

"I pass by complicated quilts at shows, they are made by people who have too much time on their hands."
This wasn't directed at me, but an opinion on a quilt forum thread.
But I did indeed take it personally. Rude, insensitive, unthinking? Yes and no.

I'm reminded by this hidden knife and its carrier, we hear and say stuff like this all the time. Sometimes hidden behind snarky intent, sometimes totally unintentional and undirected. I've been a lot more thoughtful about my interactions this week, I'd never want to denigrate someone else's passions and work. If challenged, can't you take a joke, makes it intentional. I do not want to be the figure on this card.

Baton and Bow

Daily Draw: Etruscan Tarot ~ Page of Wand

"hunter trying to catch bird" Minetti
Big baton small man?
Big man small bow?
Small bird, good luck with either.

How often are our tools the wrong size for the job?
How often are we the hammer, how often the nail?
I wish the bird safe journey, don't want anyone to starve.

We live a life of conundrums

Daily Draw: Etruscan Tarot ~ Fool

"Man Dancing Freedom" Minetti

5441 steps at 8:45 AM. Day two, mowing the lawn.
I love mowing the lawn and this time I accidentally came upon a new direction. Something that would only please a Fool. But a Fool wouldn't know my backstory.

The descending curves are a result of not correcting my turn on each end. How many ways can I apply this happy accident to  my life? I'm thinking many.

Daily Draw: Etruscan Tarot ~ 10 of Cups

"Sharing plentiful food." Minetti

Plenty. Something I'm aware of every time I open a cupboard or check out of a grocery store.

How, in a country this rich, can there be a hungry child, anywhere?

WHO Lives Here?

Daily Draw: Etruscan Tarot ~ 7 of Coins

"A man is inspecting his property" Minetti
How long has it been since you've really looked at your home and/or business? On the way to town there is a metal building which has had its gutter hanging half off for three years.  There is another with a corner of the roof gone for a couple of months. I had an eye doctor once whose entry door was down right gruddy. Staff enter in the back.

Obviously these three examples are in areas the owner never sees. One memorable task FlyLady gave us was go outside and look at our entry as if we'd never seen it before. Then take fifteen minutes to give it a facelift. A eyeopener for some of us. Well, me anyway.
