Daily Draw: Etruscan Tarot ~ 7 of Swords

"woman hides face and knife" Minetti

"I pass by complicated quilts at shows, they are made by people who have too much time on their hands."
This wasn't directed at me, but an opinion on a quilt forum thread.
But I did indeed take it personally. Rude, insensitive, unthinking? Yes and no.

I'm reminded by this hidden knife and its carrier, we hear and say stuff like this all the time. Sometimes hidden behind snarky intent, sometimes totally unintentional and undirected. I've been a lot more thoughtful about my interactions this week, I'd never want to denigrate someone else's passions and work. If challenged, can't you take a joke, makes it intentional. I do not want to be the figure on this card.

  1. Snark: a socially acceptable way to put people down while making yourself look clever.
I wonder how many relationships have crumbled (or never got started) because of such insensitivity.

  2. Thank you for reminding me to be more thoughtful. I can be quite the unintentional bitch sometimes

  3. The old passive - aggressive ploys. "oh what I didn't mean...but" I just won't play the game anymore and try to make sure I am not the start of something so ill intentioned.

  4. It was a foolish thing to say.
How about this one, said by a friend of mine whom I've lost considerable respect for (because of her disdain for women, which she doesn't recognize):
"Those feminists can only be activists because they have husbands supporting them financially. Women who work for their living don't have time to protest."

    1. I wasn't able to have children, fine by me, but I've heard
"but who will take care of you when you are old?" Like kids aren't beating their folks up for their pension...
Or "what do you Do all day?" from a stay at home mom who never worked outside the home.

I welcome your thoughts. Good bad or indifferent; opinions are the lifeblood of conversation and I always learn something from a new point of view. Thank you for visiting, Sharyn
