
"Necessity of ritual sacrifice"
Being impaled, while bound. Many nations have used this action through history. As capital punishment, like hanging, electrocuting, beheading, impaling supposedly deters miscreants. And is the opposite spectrum from the standard card, a chubby man chortling over his nine cups.
Life is ever made up from the haves and the have-nots. If I were a desperate have not, there isn't much that would deter me from survival.

DeleteMakes me think of the sacrifice of the Lakota during the sun dance - an exchange of pain for the hope of something good.
